The Ocean Rescue Caribbean Academy (ORCA), with the collaboration of Sea Grant Puerto Rico and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM), offered a training course to local lifeguards to prepare them to ensure the life of those that entertain themselves at the beaches in Puerto Rico, particularly during summer season (high season for locals). During the training, conducted at the UPRM Natatorium, the lifeguards were taught about aquatic safety, rescue and survival techniques. CARICOOS was able to participate in such training to educate the participants about how to access and understand our near-real time ocean observations. Info boards were distributed to be placed on the lifeguard stations to inform beach-goers about the current wave and wind conditions.
Congratulations to all participants!
