The marine heatwave in the Gulf of Mexico is increasing in intensity as the area covered by strong categories expands. The marine heatwave off the coast of Guinea is shrinking in area but remains generally stable in intensity, with conditions still ranging from moderate to strong.
South Atlantic
The marine heatwave stretching from Brazil to South Africa remains generally stable, with conditions still mostly in the moderate range and locally in the strong range.
Pacific Ocean
- The marine heatwave in the southern Bering Sea (around 50°N) is decreasing in area and intensity to the west but increasing in area and intensity to the east.
- In the Sea of Okhotsk, the marine heatwave is intensifying and has moved into the strong to severe category, with locally extreme conditions.
- In the Sea of Korea and the Sea of Japan, moderate to strong marine heatwaves remain generally stable.
- The marine heatwave extending across nearly the entire equatorial axis from 30°S to 25°N remains generally stable in coverage, but is increasing locally in intensity with the emergence of more extreme categories.
- The marine heatwave west and south of New Zealand remains stable in both coverage and intensity.
Indian Ocean
Current marine heat waves in the basin remain generally stable, with conditions still ranging from moderate to severe.
