GLOBAL OCEAN

North Atlantic

The marine heatwave extending from the Bay of Biscay along the northern coast of Spain to the waters off the Azores is expanding in area but remains stable in intensity.

The marine heatwave in the North Sea is decreasing in both area and intensity, with only a few scattered areas remaining.

The marine heatwave off the coasts of Florida and Cuba is intensifying, reaching severe intensity in some areas, with the “strong” category expanding in area.

In the center of the basin, around 55°W/30°N, the marine heatwave is gaining in intensity and area.

North Pacific

The marine heatwave south of Alaska is decreasing in both area and intensity.

The marine heatwave in the Sea of Japan is decreasing in area.

The marine heatwave in the Yellow Sea is decreasing in both area and intensity.

The marine heatwave extending across nearly the entire equatorial belt from -10° to 15°N remains generally stable in area but is increasing in intensity off the coast of Central America, with the “strong” and “severe” categories expanding in area and “extreme” zones developing between 130° and 150°W and at 150°E

The marine heatwave present around the Philippines is decreasing in both area and intensity.

South Pacific

The marine heatwave south of New Zealand, as well as the one between 90°W and 120°W, remain stable in terms of both extent and intensity.

Indian Ocean

The marine heatwave in the basin is shrinking in area, particularly to the west and east of India, but remains stable in intensity.

Mediterranean Sea

Marine heatwaves in the Mediterranean basin between the Strait of Gibraltar and Italy, as well as those south of Crete and Turkey, are decreasing in both area and intensity.
