Global Ocean
North Atlantic
The marine heatwave located at the centre of the ocean is decreasing both in intensity and area, and only some sparse areas of moderate to strong intensity remain. The marine heatwave located at the West of the Mexican Gulf is increasing in intensity. The marine heatwave affecting the Caribbean Sea is decreasing in intensity.
South Atlantic
The marine heatwave located at the centre of the basin is decreasing both in area and intensity.
North Pacific
The marine heatwave currently located near 180°W and 50°N remains stable in intensity but is shrinking, especially on its eastern side. In the sea of Japan, the MHW is increasing in area and in intensity.
The MHW which extends across nearly the entire equatorial belt from 0° to 15°N, remains stable in area but is generally increasing in intensity, reaching severe to extreme intensities off the coasts of Central America. The marine heatwave located around the Philippines and Indonesia is decreasing in intensity and area.
South Pacific
The marine heatwave in the central South Pacific around 110°W remains stable in area but is decreasing in intensity around 130°W. The marine heatwave located north of the Fiji archipelago is increasing in intensity. The marine heatwave south of New Zealand is increasing in both intensity and area and now reaches the Western part of the country.
