CARICOOS AND SOCIEDAD AMBIENTE MARINO FORMALIZE A LONG-STANDING COLLABORATION

CARICOOS and Sociedad Ambiente Marino (S.A.M) representatives gathered to sign an agreement to formalize a collaboration of sharing data to promote the conservation of coastal and marine resources. CARICOOS will support S.A.M.’s coral reef rehabilitation plans and other coastal restoration and protection initiatives by lending instrumentation for collecting biogeochemical observations to learn more about the coastal environment where their work is being done. Furthermore, CARICOOS will continue to expand its data products, such as ecosystem and water quality data products and satellite-derived water quality data for Puerto Rico (which will be in the CARICOOS web portal soon), to assess the coastal water quality state and anomaly events facilitating then, the timely decision-making.

CARICOOS seeks to support other local agencies’ coastal and ecosystem restoration and protection initiatives in the US Caribbean by providing valuable data and data products that would improve our understanding of aquatic ecosystems and share knowledge to foster well-informed decisions.
