Students from the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamón learn about waves and the usefulness of CARICOOS wave products.

During the current academic semester, the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamón Campus offers the Introduction to Oceanography course, taught by Dr. Concepción Rodríguez Fourquet. One of the main topics of the course was waves. Given the invitation made by Dr. Rodríguez, last week, Mr. Adolfo González and Dr. Miguel F. Canals from CARICOOS offered a virtual lecture on waves. As part of the lecture, they explained basic physics principles on wave generation, wave types characteristics, and waves impacts. They also taught the students how to access and read CARICOOS wave products and their importance when planning marine recreation activities.
In order to measure knowledge gained from participating in the lecture, pre and post-tests were facilitated. Post-test results demonstrated high knowledge gain among the participants. Given these results, besides being pleased, we hope to continue offering this valuable information and reach other audiences.
