Despite the multiple challenges that covid-19 has brought, and in order to adapt to this new reality, CARICOOS Outreach and Education staff explored new ways to continue its mission of educating users about the correct use of its products and services. To address this issue, on April 2020 CARICOOS collaborated with the National Scholastic Surfing Association Puerto Rico Conference (NSSA Puerto Rico) to conduct a webinar series on waves.

At first, the audience was mainly composed of water sports practitioners, however, during each webinar CARICOOS requested the audience to express their needs about other topics that they were interested in knowing better. As a result, webinars on wind, sargassum, water quality and currents have been offered. Therefore, a more diverse audience joined these webinars. Certainly, managers, educators, college students, divers, biologists and many non-profit organization members have participated.

The results have been very positive. More than 1,000 people have been reached through this effort since its 1rst outing on April 15 2020 to the present. CARICOOS will continue expanding this service and updating the content according to the user’s interests and needs.
