The Commission for Natural Disaster Management of the College of Engineers and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico (CIAPR) invited CARICOOS to participate in the workshop: Anticipating Surprises and Taking Action – The Integration of CIAPR to the Climate Change Council. Offered last August in Mayaguez, the workshop aimed at familiarizing engineers and land surveyors with the common physical phenomena, measuring techniques, and design criteria relevant to processes that may be impacted by climate change. CARICOOS speakers included Juan González López, Miguel Canals and Sylvia Rodríguez-Abudo, who provided insights on storm surge modeling, wave modeling, and beach water quality, respectively. Participants also toured some of CARICOOS and the Center for Applied Ocean Sciences and Engineering facilities, where they witnessed the wave flume and rotating tank in action.
