CARICOOS 2016 General Assembly and Stakeholders Council Meeting

The CARICOOS General Assembly and Stakeholders Council Meeting took place last April 27-28 at the PR Convention Center. The event kicked off with an ignite session aimed at showcasing CARICOOS R&D efforts in support of coastal intelligence in the US Caribbean. CARICOOS staff, students and collaborators presented their work in short, high-impact talks on a variety of topics including wave forecasts, beach water quality, larvae dispersion, high-frequency radars, alternative ocean energy, and much more. The talks were followed by an icebreaker session that included posters and hands-on demonstrations of CARICOOS products and services. The General Assembly took place the next day, where CARICOOS leadership reported on the goals achieved during the previous year including: the unveiling of the new CARICOOS website; success in securing funding for the next cycle; the new Yabucoa Port dashboard-and exemplary collaboration with the private industry; among others. The agenda also included invited speakers from partnering efforts ranging from hurricane science to precision navigation, coastal engineering, and CARICOOS international expansion. The event also allowed for the signing of an MOU between CARICOOS and PR DNER with the purpose of securing collaborations with the Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The meeting concluded with Board Member elections for three vacant seats. We a pleased to welcome Carlos Farchette, Luis Raúl Torres and Roberto Cortés into the CARICOOS Board of Directors.
