2019 Underwater Gliders Successfully Recovered

As during previous seasons since 2014,  autonomous underwater vehicles, also known as gliders, were deployed in the Caribbean Sea and in the Atlantic Ocean to collect data on ocean properties for use in the improvement of hurricane intensity forecasts. During the mission the NOAA AOML gliders were capable to successfully occupy  transects in eastern Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean region providing profile observations of temperature, salinity, oxygen, and surface as well as depth-average current velocities. As this year’s season came to an end CARICOOS-UPRM, CARICOOS-OCOVI, and ANAMAR from the Dominican Republic partnered with NOAA AOML to successfully recover six (four in Puerto Rico, one in the Virgin Island and one in Dominican Republic) underwater gliders from the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea aboard the M/V Marieangie, the M/V Double Header and M/V Jaimar. Now the gliders will undergo preparations for next year Hurricane Season.
