The Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System was invited to the February 2019 meeting of the North Coast Harbor Safety and Security Committee, where we presented on the tools available in our website (caricoos.org) to track Sargasso in the Caribbean region. Recent reports and research conducted by the University of South Florida reveal that if growth conditions in the Atlantic are favorable in the coming months it is likely that 2019 may be another major bloom year (similar to 2018) for the Caribbean Sea.

CARICOOS also informed the attendees about our freely available mobile application for beachgoers called “Pa La Playa”, and our new mobile application being developed for small vessel operators.
